Multi-year Accessibility Plan (AODA) – Ontario

Intent


This accessibility plan outlines the strategy of Ben- Mor Cables Inc. to prevent and remove barriers for people with disabilities and comply with the requirements of the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.

Statement of Commitment


Ben- Mor Cables Inc. is committed to providing an accessible environment for all clients, employees, job applicants, suppliers, and visitors who may enter our premises, access our information, or use our services. As an organization, we respect and comply with the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, and its associated regulations. We strive to provide an accessible and welcoming environment for everyone by identifying and removing barriers in our workplace and ensuring that new barriers are not created. The company ensures that persons with disabilities are provided with equal opportunities. We are committed to meeting the needs of individuals with disabilities in a timely and integrative manner that respects their dignity and independence.

Establishing an accessibility policy

Requirements

  • Develop, implement and maintain written policies on how to achieve accessibility in compliance with all applicable requirements of the Integrated Accessibility Standards.
  • Make these policies available to the public and provide them in an accessible format on request.

What we have done to meet these requirements

  • We have drawn up an accessibility policy governing how we will achieve our accessibility objective.
  • This policy is available on our website and will be provided in an accessible format upon request. 

Multi-year accessibility plan

Requirements

  • Drawn up and implement a multi-year accessibility plan. 
  • Post the accessibility plan on the website and on request, provide an accessible format. 
  • Review and update the plan at least once every five years. 
  • Review and update the accessibility plan in consultation with people with disabilities. 

What we have done to meet these requirements

  • The multi-year plan will be updated in 2028.
  • Our accessibility plan is available on our website and will be sent in an accessible format on request.

Training

Requirements

  • Ensure that all of the following people receive training on the requirements of the accessibility standards set out in the by-law and on the provisions of the Human Rights Code that apply to people with disabilities: 
    • All employees;
    • All those involved in the developing the organization’s policies;
    • All other persons who supply products, services or facilities to the organization;
    • All new employees when they join the organization.

What we have done to meet these requirements

  • A training course was given to all employees covered by the legislation.
  • All the new employees mentioned above will be trained as soon as possible.
  • We keep a record of the training provided under this article.

Feedback process

Requirements

  • Ensure that the feedback process for receiving and responding to comment are accessible to people with disabilities.
  • Provide or ensure the provision of accessible formats and assistive communication resources to people with disabilities who request them.
  • Inform the public about the availability of accessible formats and communication resources.
  • Deal promptly with every complaint made during the feedback process concerning the way in which we render our products and services.

What we have done to meet these requirements

  • Our feedback processes for receiving and responding to comments are accessible to people with disabilities or will be on request in an accessible format.
  • Feedback can be submitted in person, by telephone, by e-mail or via the website.

Accessible format and communication aid

Requirements

  • Provide or ensure the provision of accessible formats and assistive communication resources to people with disabilities who request them:
    • In a timely manner and in a manner that takes into account the accessibility needs arising from the person’s disability at a cost that is no greater than the ordinary cost charged to other persons.

What we have done to meet these requirements

  • Upon request and where physically possible, we will provide the necessary information to the disabled person in an accessible format within an acceptable timeframe; if this is not possible, assistive communication resources will be provided.
  • We take the disabled person’s needs into account when it comes to accessibility.
  • The fee charged will not exceed the normal cost charged to other people.

Service animals and support persons

Requirements

  • To enable people with disabilities to bring their service animal to work in our facility. 
  • Accept that people with disabilities have a support person who accompanies them on our organization’s premises. When personal information in file is deemed confidential, the human resources team reserves the right to request the consent of the person with a disability before discussing his or her life in the presence of the accompanying support person. If deemed necessary, staff may have the support person sign a confidentiality agreement.

  • We enable disable people to be accompanied by their service animal or a support person. 

Accessible Web site and content

Requirements

  • To ensure that the Ben-Mor Cables Inc, Web site and its content comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 (Level AA).

What we have done to meet these requirements

  • The website and its content have been updated to comply with WCAG 2.0, Level AA.
  • Ensure that all employees and contractors involved in the development of our website and its content are familiar with applicable guidelines and best practices for web accessibility design, development and quality assurance.

Employment standards

Requirements

  • Notifies its employees and the public of the availability of accommodations for candidates with disabilities during its recruitment process.
  • Advise each job applicant who is selected to participate in the assessment or selection process that accommodations may be made upon request with respect to the equipment or processes to be used.
  • To consult with a selected applicant requesting accommodation and to provide or ensure the provision of appropriate accommodation in a manner that takes into account the applicant’s accessibility needs and disability.
  • Advise the successful candidate of accommodation policies for disabled employees.
  • Inform employees about policies to support disabled employees, including those relating to adapting the workplace to accommodate accessibility needs.
  • Consult with the disabled employee to provide or ensure the provision of accessible formats and assistive communication resources for information required for the job and information generally available to employees in the workplace.
  • Provide employees with disabilities with individualized workplace emergency responses information to the person designated by the employer to assist the employee.
  • Develop and implement a written process governing the development of individualized, documented accommodation plans for disabled employees.
  • Develop and implement a return-to-work process for employees who are absent due to a disability and require disability-related accommodations in order to return to work.
  • Consider the accessibility needs of its disabled employees and any individualized accommodation plans when managing performance, development opportunities and reassigning disabled employees.

What we have done to meet these requirements

  • The recruitment process has been revised and measures put in place to take account of the needs of disabled people.
  • All applicants are informed of the availability of reasonable accommodation for disabled candidates during the recruitment, selection and hiring processes.
  • Return-to-work processes are well documented, and a team of HR experts supports managers when employees have special needs. Tools are also available to support managers.
  • When required, adapted solutions for access to information and means of communication are implemented.
  • Most workplace are accessible. If accommodations are required to make an employee accessible, they are made. Workstations are adapted as required. 
  • We have developed tools to objectively evaluate the performance of all employees. Fairness is one of the guiding principals of the performance appraisal process.
  • All our working conditions and skills development programs take into account the needs of disabled employees.
